Overview of the Association

The NSW Aquaculture Association is a Peak Industry Body that represents land based aquaculturalists.  It is NSW's largest aquaculture association and represents members interested in aquaculture regardless of the species they may grow, the region they may grow them in, or even if they are not growers but just interested.

The NSWAA believes that the issues facing one person growing one species in one area are much the same as those affecting us all.  By us all acting together we can have a say in our future.  The Association aims to bring us all together to work towards a common goal.

See below for all the Objectives of the Association.

The Association holds major conferences for the aquaculture community every couple of years, with the last two in Dubbo (2001) and Port Macquarie (2003) attracting over 100 attendees, and speakers from NSW, Queensland, SA and WA.

NSW AA is the oldest aquaculture association in NSW, evolving from the Eastern Region Aquaculture Association (formed 1994), and incorporating the Australian Freshwater Crayfish Growers Association Inc of NSW (formed in the early 1980s).

Currently there are two branches of the association - the North Coast Branch, whose members are mainly drawn from the NSW coastal area north of Taree - and the Eastern Region, which draws its members from the rest of the state.

The association welcomes the formation of new regional branches in locations where there are a number of aquaculturalists, and members willing to take on the role of officebearers.

Meetings:

Meetings are almost always held at the farms of practising aquaculturalist members, with guided tours available, so that other members can see a diverse range of operations and different approaches to aquaculture.

Because of spread of members throughout the state, meetings of the Eastern Region branch are generally held annually and whenever current issues require a gathering of members for discussion. Members are notified of meeting dates by email.

It is hoped that communication between members and the executive will be improved through the use of this web site and email.

The North Coast branch has a more centralised membership, and has met more regularly in the past, for discussion and a social get together. All members of the association are welcome and members of the North Coast branch are notified of meeting dates by email. For details of next meeting date - email
